The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Duology

Overall rating: 8.2/10
Genre: Slasher
Overall value for money and time: 7.8/10

1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Personally, I am not a fan of slasher movies. There are 2 movies of such genre which changed my impression of them - one is this duology, the other is the "SAW" quadrilogy. I used to stereotype slasher movies to be simply a no brainer movie, with lots of disturbing gore to gross out its audiences. However, while "SAW" has a fantastic plot, "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" knows how to keep it's audiences at the edge of their seats. This movie may be a typical slasher movie, but it's a pro-class typical slasher movie. Unlike typical slasher movies where they use gore, nudity and sick torture to arouse its audiences, I don't recall any nudity in this duology. All I remember is the devilish sheriff who creates the bait for his son, Leatherface. Imagine going to a town where everyone there is in cahoots and sees you as food. However, before eating you, they torture you till you lose your sanity. This movie tells the story of such, not just one, but a group of friends. The most disturbing thing about this movie, is that it is based on true accounts. However, checking out chasingthefrog.com, the only thing that's partially "real" is the main killer, Leatherface. Thank god for that, for it's merely too unsettling to sit through the movie having to think that there is really such a family out there. Though it came out before "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning", this movie takes place after the sequel. Great movie to increase your blood pressure and adrenaline. You know what the typical "myth" states - horror movies will increase bonding with your special someone. This movie is sure to make both your stomachs squirm and churn with disgust. If you're not already together, both of you will feel like you're linked after the movie. However, if you are not one to endure gore and intensity, stay away from this film. It might leave you literally breathless at the end of the movie.

2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

This prequel for the movie is equally as good as its first. It takes you back to the 1st incident where another group of friends were passing by the cursed town. They were however unable to leave the town and were tortured like play toys. The sole survivor of this movie is the girl who was featured in the first part of the first movie. Equally gory, equally adrenaline pumping. Another movie subjected to the endurance level of its audiences. Same piece of advice, don't torture yourself by forcing yourself to sit through this movie if you're not one to digest such gore. If you can take it, it's worth your time and money. The main reason why this duology is so successful is completely due to the realistically convincing acting skills of the torturers, which makes you loathe them even more.
